Typica

One of the oldest cultivated coffees, carried from Yemen to Java and around the world by Dutch and French traders.

Typica traces the route coffee took out of Yemen: to India, then to Java with Dutch traders in the late 1600s, to the botanical gardens of Amsterdam and Paris, and from there to the Caribbean and Latin America in the 1700s. With Bourbon it is one of the two lines most Latin American coffee descends from.

The plants are tall and yield little, so many farms replaced them long ago. Where it remains, Typica is valued for a clean, sweet, delicate cup.
